Cette semaine, dans le cadre de Regarde les Chinois, nous rencontrons Jason Lu, 26 ans, co-propriétaire du restaurant Lu Mama. Samedi dernier, je me suis rendu sur l’heure du midi à son restaurant, rue Ste-Catherine dans le « Chinatown II » à l’ouest de Concordia, et nous avons discuté à bâtons rompus de son restaurant (et d’autres restaurants), de religion, de bouffe chinoise, grandir à Montréal.

This week, for Regarde les Chinois, we meet with Jason Lu, 26, co-owner of Restaurant Lu Mama. Last Saturday, on lunch hour, I went to his restaurant on Ste-Catherine in “Chinatown II”, west of Concordia, and we talked about his restaurant (and other ones), religion, Chinese food, growing up in Montreal.

The Year of the Rat starts on February 7th, 2008. It is probably the sign that is the most out of the ordinary: how would someone want to be born on a year associated with an animal such as the rat? Despite that, rats have always been close to human beings throughout history, in our granaries, our houses, and fully deserve a spot in the astrology invented by the Chinese (so, what about a year of the cat?). I bought this in Chinatown, at the back of the Ruby Rouge mall… According to my grandfather, it is a very popular brand in Hong Kong, although he does not use it himself. Madame Pearl's Cough Syrup

According to my grandfather, it is a very popular brand in Hong Kong, although he does not use it himself. On the box, it says that it contains, per 30ml:

When I checked my Robitussin Cough & Cold (Extra Strength), this was what we had in medicinal ingredients adjusted for the same volume of 30 ml (was for 5 ml on box):

  • Dextromethorphan HBr: 90 mg
  • Pseudoephedrine HCl: 180 mg
  • Guaifenesin: 1200 mg

The Robitussin was perhaps Extra Strength, but is a lot more potent. Price-wise, the Madame Pearl’s was 5$ for 120 ml and I forgot how much the Robitussin was, but probably around $8-10 for 100 ml.
